How to maintain mechanical watches?

Maintenance of mechanical watches is a meticulous and important process, the following are some key maintenance steps and precautions:

First, daily cleaning and maintenance

Case and strap cleaning:

Often use a soft cloth or silk to gently wipe away dirt and sweat stains on the case.

The strap, especially the leather strap, should avoid long-term exposure to the sun to prevent fading, and avoid contact with oily substances or cosmetics to avoid penetration and corrosion.

For metal bands, you can gently scrub dirt with a soft toothbrush and then dry with a dry cloth.

Waterproof performance check:

If the mechanical watch has a waterproof function, the waterproof performance should be checked regularly and the waterproof rubber ring should be replaced. The waterproof watch can only be waterproof for one year, and a new waterproof ring must be replaced after one year.

Try to avoid letting the watch contact with water, especially hot water, to prevent damage to the movement.

How to maintain mechanical watches?

Second, use habits and precautions

Avoid extreme environments:

Do not let the watch cold sudden heat, temperature upheaval will increase the watch travel error, and even damage the internal parts.

Avoid exposing the watch to harsh environments such as moisture and dust to prevent rust or damage to the movement.

Prevent collision and magnetization:

Dangerous behaviors such as violent vibration and falling from high places should be avoided to prevent damage to the movement.

Try to avoid placing the watch near electromagnetic equipment such as radio and television to prevent magnetization from affecting the accuracy of travel time.

Regular winding and wearing:

Mechanical watches need to rely on the swing of the arm to provide power, so they should be worn often or wound regularly to keep the internal movement running.

If the mechanical watch is not worn for a long time, it is recommended to store it with a special anti-magnetic box and wind it regularly to maintain the movement activity.

Third, professional maintenance and maintenance

Regular inspection:

It is recommended to send the watch to a professional watch repair center every year for waterproof performance testing and appearance cleaning.

Every 3 to 5 years, the mechanical watch is sent to a professional watch repair center for comprehensive maintenance and maintenance, including cleaning and lubricating the mechanical parts in the watch.

Professional maintenance:

If the watch is slow, does not go or parts are damaged, it should be sent to a professional watch repair center in time for repair and adjustment.

Avoid disassembling and repairing the watch yourself to avoid more serious damage.

Fourth, other precautions

Storage method:

If the mechanical watch is not worn, it should be stored in a cool and dry place to avoid sun exposure and excessive humidity.

Make sure the crown is in a push-in position to prevent dust and moisture from entering the movement.

Avoid chemical exposure:

When wearing the watch, be sure to stay away from gasoline, alcohol, solvents, mercury, sprays, cosmetics, cleaning agents, adhesives or paints, camphor, and acids, alkalis, salts and other substances. These chemicals may cause bleaching, deterioration or corrosion damage to the case and band.
